How to ensure your school is statutorily compliant for governors and trustees webinar Download Flyer
Many boards worry about how to ensure they are ensuring compliance in their school or trust with all the relevant legislation. It can feel overwhelming, but is there a way to feel confidently on top of this responsibility?

Compliance runs through all levels of Governance and is a key feature in the Governance Handbook, Competency Framework and Academies Financial Handbook.  It is important that Boards understand their duties and responsibilities and know how to assure themselves that that their school is compliant with the requirements and duties with which it must also comply. This webinar provides guidance for boards on how to approach this daunting task.

The following will be explored:

  • How to understand the legal and charitable context of the school/academy you govern
  • What are the key compliance duties and responsibilities of the Board?
  • How to create a compliance checklist and calendar for the board
  • Where to find the latest guidance
  • What is the right level of board monitoring?
Who should attend?
All governors, trustees and school leaders.

Rosemary Lovatt is the NLG Advocate for East of England and NE London. She is an experienced chair and governance tutor who runs the Governance Leadership Programme across England.

About NLGs
National Leaders of Governance (NLGs) are experienced chairs of governing boards. All NLGs have been through a rigorous designation process from the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), a part of the Department for Education (DfE), to demonstrate that we have the skills, experience and attributes to be a National Leader of Governance. All NLGs are either actively chairing standalone schools or academies, local governing boards or multi academy trust (MAT) trust boards or have done so within the last five years. All NLGs are trained to support governors through mentoring and coaching and provide governance services which are quality assured.
