About the Programme The programme will consist of four face-to-face modules delivered by an experienced, high quality facilitator. Delegates will complete a 360° evaluation at the beginning of the programme to establish their competencies and areas to develop. Who is the trainer? The course will be delivered by Becky Poynter. Becky has worked in education since 1990 first for an Inner London Local Authority and then in maintained schools and multi academy trusts in and around Suffolk. Becky is an experienced Chair of Governors, currently leading the governing board of an outstanding Special School and is a National Leader of Governance (NLG), working with Chairs, Governors and Trust Boards across the Eastern Region and beyond. As well as being the Senior Governance Advisor for a 30 school Multi Academy Trust, she is a clerk for a Federation of two Essex primary schools and a tutor with the Schools’ Choice governor training team. Becky is passionate about all aspects of governance and believes that the clerk, as the governance professional, is pivotal to the success of a governing board.
How will my Board benefit? The programme is framed around the Clerking Competency Framework, which was first published by the DfE in April 2017. This identifies the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to provide professional clerking to the governing boards of maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trusts.
