Are you an existing, new or aspiring chair, who wants to know if you could improve your leadership of the board?

Our certified professional leadership development programme gives you the support of an experienced chair for three terms. The programme will ensure your thinking about governance is up to date and you know what is expected of a chair of the board in 2023/24.

Chairs or prospective chairs will be taught best practices from a National Leader of Governance (NLG) and shown how to lead a governing board though an academic year.  We will be there by your side over three terms with a free advice line available to all participants.

Topics covered over five webinars include:

  • Building a high performing governance team
  • Leading strategic thinking for your school or trust
  • How to be risk aware and manage risks
  • Working smart and planning your year
  • Communication and developing relationships
  • Chairing effective meetings
  • Leading financial oversight and benchmarking
  • Staffing matters
  • Handling complaints and exclusions
  • Ensuring statutory compliance
  • Listening to stakeholders, (i.e. parents, staff and pupils).

The programme includes:

  • A facilitated self-review of your board
  • Chair’s skills audit
  • Five x 2-hour webinars over three terms
  • Access to a Free advice line
  • Resource Pack of useful checklists, calendars etc
  • Access to Mentoring (optional, at an additional cost)

Tutor
Rosemary Lovatt is a highly experience governance consultant who ran the DfE governance leadership programme across the country for three years and within Essex for a further three years. she has extensive experience of undertaking governance reviews and designing, developing and delivering training for governors and trustees. Rosemary's background is in the corporate sector where she gained 20 years experience as a senior global leader. she has a BA(Hons) in Accountancy and Business Studies.
Rosemary has chaired boards in a large secondary academy, a maintained primary school, a primary school within a multi academy trust (MAT) and a large junior school within a diocesan MAT, as well as being a trustee in four different MATs. Rosemary was designated a National Leader of Governance and is currently vice chair of a growing MAT and has recently joined the local governing board of a special school in Essex. Rosemary is also an NGA consultant.
